The biggest agonising frustration when maintaining sneakers is its lack of durability to endure weather changes – specifically with water. Most materials used to create our favourite pairs of shoes will stain easily if it were to accidentally get in contact with a puddle of water (mud would be shoe suicide!), which leaves them to take on a rather deformed shape or worse yet, discolouration. Unlike a pair of jeans, shoes that have been distressed are not the most aesthetically pleasing items to look at. The innovative shoe brand that brought us the All Wah and the Futura Skyfall collection found a solution for these worries and are now presenting the market with a design that combats wet weather – the Shield Canvas.
The All Star Chuck Taylor II Shield Canvas is made of water repellent canvas and waterproof neoprene; its lining uses micro-suede that helps withstand various climate challenges and for guaranteed comfort, Converse looked at its sister company’s product blueprint, the Nike Lunarlon, for inspiration. The benefits these shoes come with make it a worthy investment – think about it, you’d be a new age martyr ‘cos you’d be able to walk through water while your shoes maintain their dryness. Realistically though, the Shield Canvas would be an essential piece for anyone’s festival getup because we all know how messy such events can be.
