the nature of names

In an effort to find ‘proper direction for them’, the authorities have decided to rebrand those ubiquitous motorcycle hellions colloquially known as ‘Mat Rempit’ into something more inspiring, say for example ‘Mat Cemerlang’.

I don’t know about any of you, gentle readers, but there’s something unusual to me when the participants of an unlawful activity are officially christened in the tiers of Government. It appears that the act of illegal racing, though an offence in the eyes of the law, is lauded by the very people who outlawed it.

Suggestions for the rebranding of other activities or subcultures, anyone?

  1. that picture rocks on so many levels, i can’t even begin to heap praise on it. Remp-it should have it on their promo posters!

  2. mat cemerlang ni sebenarnya kena belajar membaca dulu.. apa apa pon baca.. ni cemerlang pebende kalau buat benda macam tu sebab nak tunjuk kat orang yang dia boleh buat. lepas tu tanak perah betol betol

  3. if the government really want to change these mat rempits.. there are a lot to brainstorm.. might bit real hard but if it’s planned and done properly, these ‘mats’ might have the chance to turn over a new leaf.

  4. Well it’s good that Datuk Khairy (PM’s son inlaw) is taking some iniative to communicate with these ‘mat rempit’. But somehow i agree with many people that it is not logical to start such clubs, when thereĀ are so many bad remarks on it for so long … maybe they should direct these people to a place where they can race legally, rather than illegally, at the same time hurting themselves and other road users.
