Whichever way you slice it and dice it, we could all do with a lot less meat in our diet. While the production of meat is bad for the environment, sucking up much needed water and crops (which could be used to feed people) and inflicting much cruelty on the animal prior to slaughter (unless its organic), too much meat could kill you too. And when you’re dead or paying medical bills, you probably won’t be thinking much about fashion. Charles + Keith’s organic denim collection, due to drop on 5 June ticks all right boxes – its production makes less of an environmental impact, it supports the Meat Free Monday campaign and it looks the biz! Win, win, win!

In conjunction with World Environment Day 2011, Singapore’s favourite fashion footwear and accessories brand, Charles & Keith, has put its heart where its handbag is and launches the Organic Denim Collection. To hit stores from 5 June 2011, the collection has been created to benefit Meat Free Monday (MFM), an eco-campaign founded by Paul McCartney and his daughters, Mary and Stella McCartney.

Charles & Keith’s Organic Denim Collection is an eco-friendly range of classic pieces reinterpreted using ethical fabric choices. Consisting of matching peep-toe pumps and double chain quilted handbag (ala Chanel) both are crafted using 100% organic denim which is free from chemical fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides. In fact, the entire production of the fabric adheres strictly to ecological standards: from spinning and dyeing to finishing of the denim. It involves non-toxic fiber processing, colourants and fabric treatments to ensure that no damage was caused to the environment from the collection production.

In addition, the fashion-forward thinking Charles & Keith label will be donating a portion of the sale proceeds from the collection to Meat Free Monday (MFM), an eco-movement founded by Sir Paul McCartney and his daughters Mary and Stella McCartney. The initiative raises awareness on how one can reduce environmental impact and live a healthier lifestyle by giving up meat for one day each week. Yay!

Charles & Keith’s Organic Denim Collection drops in all Charles & Keith stores in Malaysia from 5 June 2011 onwards while stocks last with the Organic Denim collection shoes retailing at RM149.90 and RM165.90 for the bag (prices applicable for Peninsula Malaysia stores only). The collection will also be available through selected Charles & Keith stores in China, Cyprus, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Turkey, Vietnam and Singapore.
