The rappers mansion….
Pavilion KL changed the game, but just when we were starting to forget about Lot 10, it went under the knife, starting from the top. What was just a rooftop parking lot is now a landscape of restaurants, fashionable gym, theatre and Rootz. Reclaiming clubbing for this part of the city, its launch hailed the return of long lines, strict dress codes and crazy hip hop nights, held down by none other than Kartel Records! Holla!

The Opera

The circus is in town….
With a modern baroque interior and a Cirque Nouveau theme, The Opera makes an ambitious attempt to combine music, copious deals on alcohol and circus acts over three floors. Performances take place at the Theatre where staff dons circus uniforms. A VIP bar overlooks the dancefloor where a rotating in-house band plays passable covers on weekends and the DJ drops commercial dance and chart music. If you’re looking something a little more removed from the action The Long Lounge and Red Observatory is quieter and cover charge free. The latter is also The Opera’s rooftop bar where you can indulge in your own personal beer tap! Be prepared to get as high as a trapeze artist; the promotions at The Opera are tailor made for the drinker (check the webbie for a full list) and the food menu is as extensive as its drinks list!

Celebrities Hall of Music

Celebrities Hall Of Music

2 Jalan Solaris,
Solaris Mont Kiara
50480 Kuala Lumpur
T: 03 6204 0969

Live music and Canon cocktails….
A club with a bent for live music and comedy, Celebrities Hall of Music is managed by C3 Entertainment, the company owned by rnb chanteuse Ning Baizura, and Canon, the photographic and digital imaging solutions specialist. The unlikely collision in brands resulted in a supernova style explosion of stellar proportions at the venue’s launch party – Canon’s long-time ambassador, Hong Kong movie star Simon Yam turned up to make it official and Ning hit the stage. The celebrity hook up means you’re as likely to rub shoulders with Malaysia’s most famous as they are to entertain you. The lavishly decorated, plush interior and nests of moodily lit table lends the place a luxe jazz club air. The only thing to bring the concept crashing back down to earth is the cocktails, which are unabashedly named after Canon products. Still even local icons have got to pay the bills.

Arabian nights and house music….
Unless you are your parents, hotel clubs and bars have always been a bit naff. Joints like Luna Bar at the Pacific Regency, Skybar at Traders Hotel and Zeta Bar at The Hilton KL have helped to shed that image for something a little younger and swankier. The same can be said of Sultan Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental. Designed by New York-based Stephane Dupuox (www.dupuoxdesign.com), the creative force behind Buddha Bar in New York, Cocoon in London and Nikki Beach in Miami, the Sultan Lounge is what you’d get if Diddy pitched a tent in the desert – minimal, luxe, exotic.

High in calcium and kicks
Remember back when Bangsar was a hip and happening place? Nowadays it seems that the action has moved from the Telawi square to Bangsar Avenue, which houses both Mist and Milk Club. Milk is a playground for those looking for some middle ground between having a quiet drink and partying like a rockstar at a mega club. Its plush interior design is a combination of Hollywood-meets-contemporary glam. From the centrepiece–an organic formed pillar with colourful mosaic and numerous LCD screens–to the futuristic audio and visual DJ console, Milk’s ambience screams fun in daring red.

Red Square - CLOSED

by Kevin Yeoh on Monday, 28th September 2009

Red Square started as Jakarta’s award winning vodka bar and now it has reached the shores of Kuala Lumpur. It has been doing very well over at Jakarta for over 3 years now and this is just the beginning of it all. Located at the still-very-fresh Capsquare, so everything just seems oh so new and sharp. Model behaviour at all times.
Watered down drinks, poorly mixed slop, cheap ass house pours, that’s usually what you’d expect to hear of a big superclub’s liquid offerings. Not at Aristo. Open 3 days a week, at Aristo, Zouk’s glittery new champagne bar, only the finest bubbly is dished up and when it comes to cognacs and whiskeys, it’s almost as old as its airbrushed clientele.
