Despite their assisted suicide-wishing name, They Will Kill Us All can’t be killed. Having gone through a few iterations with multiple vocalists, the band refuses to be bogged down every time a singer leaves. In their current form, TWKUA is at their best as leader and creative auteur behind the band, Edwin Raj finally takes centre stage as the vocalist, giving the band a much needed grounded creative control.

Mike Volpe’s music as Clams Casino is what happens when the production discipline of Primo got into a forced marriage with the dirty disorder of rapegaze. Despite the critical praise elevating him beyond just hip hop and comparisons to acts as varied as Ariel Pink and Washed Out, Clams is unabashedly a hip hop producer. That is the only title he identifies with.

Just when the world was about to forget M.I.A after the disappointing third album and her subsequent bitching of criticism directed at the record, tragedy struck and inspired the rap riot girl to share her portentous unreleased track ’27’ with the world. As you have probably guessed, the eponymous number is in reference to the age musicians die and become legends at. Don’t mistake this for an opportunistic move though, the song was meant for her Vickileekx mixtape and recorded 9 months prior to the untimely death of Amy Winehouse. And as her disclaimer says, the track is a paean to all her peers who died at that age.

Arabyrd: Flexing Again

After jerking to ‘Byrd Kick’ for the nth time over the past 3 years since the song was released, it’s time to believe the hype again. Arabyrd just dropped a 3-track EP Disco Nected. Even without much in terms of new releases, the Sarawakian lass still maintains an indelible presence in the music scene. After all, it was only a few months ago that the whole of Klang Valley’s scenesters saw her rocking a mean set at her birthday party. The same stubborn presence translates on stage too as she hypnotises you with a swagger and energy rarely found in local acts. Most rappers fake their swag, Arabyrd sweats swag like it was the by-product of her biology.
