Born and raised in a small town in Norway, Ørjan Nilsen was taught to play drums for the first 9 years of his life by his father and brother. But he got into making his own productions after trance music caught his attention and he received his first synthesizer. [more »]

by Ben Liew on Thursday, 30th June 2011

According to Pitchfork (again), Louisiana-raised music maker/avant-garde wailer Julianna Barwick’s music is best described by producer and DJ Diplo as “Carebears making love”. A pretty spot-on description considering her sound delivers undecipherable lyrics, but with such emotional depth–sans the fur and rainbows.

by Ben Liew on Tuesday, 26th April 2011

If you have a band and were former classmates with MGMT, pesky comparisons are bound to arise. But instead of being another post-punk, experimental psych act in Brooklyn (ie. hype central), Bear Hands seamlessly craft their own brand of indie with humorous lyrics and light, funky grooves.

Ryat

by Ben Liew on Tuesday, 26th April 2011

If Toro Y Moi had a rebellious sister, she’d be Ryat’s vocalist Christina McGeehan. Together with multi-instrumentalist/producer Tim Conley, the Philly duo creates music that we like to refer to as dream glitch.
