White Hinderland: Trippy Minimal Pop
Posted March 18th, 2010 at 9:00 am by Ben Liew
The evolution of White Hinterland’s music has been graceful and inspiring, shifting chameleon-like from jazz-tinged chamber pop to French ye-ye music. With her latest LP Kairos on the horizon, White Hinterland (aka Casey Dienel) delves into a modern, electronic wash and uncovers a confident, captivating pop voice. Dropping jazz in favour of minimal pop and slinky rnb, this is the first White Hinterland album truly made by a band. Single ‘Icarus’ is ultimately a chillout track with Casey’s vocals giving it a trippy feel while the heavy bassline and beautiful ambiance lift the song beyond bedroom-listening territory.
