RBMA x COMO x Detour Asia Pres. Ikonika (Hyperdub)

Continuing their consistent booking of bass-centric DJ-producers, Detour Asia – together with RBMA and COMO – is bringing Hyperdub veteran Ikonika (née Sara Abdel-Hamid) to KL. Ever since her first release with the label, 12” ‘Please’/’Simulacrum’ in 2008, she’s been at the forefront of innovating dubstep even through the thick and thin of its commercial phase, making a sound that according to The Observer “melds the genre’s juddering bass with Aphex Twin-style melodic mischief-making.” But she’s not limited to just one style, after debut album Contact, Love, Want, Have (2010), her Hum + Buzz EP I Make Lists (2012) sees a dancefloor-ready focus, and Azealia Banks’ mixtape Neptunes utilises her production. Then, second album via Hyperdub Aerotropolis (2013) expands her soundscape to r’n’b, electro, Latin freestyle, and boogie – a move that results in accolades from the likes of Resident Advisor and NME, eventually leading to her receiving nominations for Best Producer and Best Album at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards. More recently, the 2014 Hyperdub EP Position brings Ikonika closer to her Night Slugs affiliation with its grimy, spatial club sound that’s as tough and pummelling as it is rhythmic – something we can expect from the DJ at COMO come Friday 25 November ’16. Ikonika will be supported by two B2B sets; ATTAGIRL (Fatim and DuriO) and Detour Asia (CEE and Reesh9000).
